'In Vitro' literally it means "in glass", indicating that the fertilization is done in the laboratory, in a capsule that used to be made of glass at the beginnings of the ART techniques development. This type of fertilization is done outside the body, contrary to natural fertilization wich ocurrs inside the body. IVF is a reasonable election for couples with several types of infertility. At the beginning , this procedure was exclusive for women whose tubes were blocked, damaged or absent, but at the moment its application extends to sterility caused by endometriosis, masculine factors, immunological causes, sterility without specific cause or in cases in wich previous treatments have failed. What is ICSI (Introcitoplasmatic Sperm Injection)?
The assisted reproduction technique known as ICSI, consists of the microinjection of a spermatozoa within the ovum. For this procedure, our laboratory is equipped with specially designed microscopes of the highest worldwide standards for the micromanipulation of gametes, ICSI is recommended in the following situations of spermatic alterations: amount, mobility and percentage of normal spermatozoa, azoospermia (absence of spermatozoa in the eyaculation) and failure of fertilization in previous IVF cycles. What is IUI (Intrauterine Insemination)?
Intaruterine Insemination is a treatment that consists of the introduction of sperm within the uterus at the time of ovulation. The IUI procedure can be used in cases in wich the cause of infertility is not evident. Immediatlely following ovulation, a sample of fresh semen is taken from the male partner. This sample is processed and inserted via a catheter into the womans uterus. What is Qualification of Sperm?
It consist of a series of techniques of "washing" the sperm with special solutions of different densities that eliminate from the sperm the cellular debris, dead and slow spermatozoa, bacteria, leukocytes, and seminal secretions. At the same time they select and group the population of the most fertile spermatozoa to increase the possibilities of fertilization. What is Cryopreservation of Embryos?
Its the freezing of embryos in a liquid nytrogen environment so that they can later be transfered to the uterus. The fresh embryos that are not used in the patients first cycle are the ones that are going to be cryopreserved. This allows the patient to have another pregnancy oportunity through IVF procedures with a lower economic cost and less physical effort. What is the Cryopreservation of Oocytes?
Its the process by wich the Oocytes are freezed so they can be used in the future. The cryopreservation of oocyte is a process in which liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the oocytes, then they are stored in special freezers until the moment of their use arrives, regardless if its been months or years since the time they were freezed. What is Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis?
